Lima Garden. Configuraciones en torno a la Amazonía en Ars Electronica Festival 2020

En el marco del Ars Electronica Festival 2020, que se llevará a cabo del 9 al 13 de setiembre, Alta Tecnología Andina – ATA y el Museo de Arte de Lima – MALI presentan el Lima Garden, Configuraciones en torno a la Amazonía. Un programa audiovisual y una oportunidad para acercarse a los diferentes aspectos de la Amazonía Peruana.

Este espacio geográfico y social, históricamente relegado, ocupa una vasta porción del territorio de nuestro país en el que se debaten temas cruciales para la vida contemporánea: desde la lucha por los derechos de las comunidades indígenas y la preservación de sus conocimientos ancestrales, hasta la conservación de un entorno natural vital para la supervivencia mundial.

El programa se estructura en torno a tres ejes temáticos: Movimiento migratorio y preservación de la memoria amazónica, Configuraciones en torno al medio ambiente, la Amazonía y los nuevos medios, y Representaciones sobre la Amazonía indígena. El proyecto reúne a seis artistas y autores peruanos: Beno Juárez, Nancy La Rosa, Fátima Rodrigo, Olinda Silvano (Reshinjabe), Elena Valera (Bawan Jisbe) y Matías Vega.

 

Movimiento migratorio y preservación de la memoria amazónica:

Las artistas Olinda Silvano (Reshinjabe) y Elena Valera (Bawan Jisbe), migrantes y descendientes del pueblo originario Shipibo-Conibo, reflexionan sobre la vida en el asentamiento urbano de Cantagallo en las afueras de Lima, las formas de preservación de la memoria colectiva amazónica y las tradiciones de sus comunidades, así como los problemas que enfrentan debido al riesgo de contagio de COVID-19 en un contexto sin acceso a recursos esenciales.

 

Configuraciones en torno al medio ambiente, la Amazonía y los nuevos medios:

El trabajo de la artista Nancy La Rosa aborda los conflictos socioambientales derivados de la extracción de bienes comunes en el Perú, así como las relaciones de poder que existen en las representaciones tradicionales del territorio. Por otro lado, el arquitecto Benito Juárez presentará el proyecto Fab Flotante Amazonas, laboratorios itinerantes de fabricación digital, que busca desarrollar nuevas tecnologías para resolver los principales desafíos del mundo: la inclusión social y el cambio climático.

Representaciones sobre la Amazonía indígena:

La sección final mostrará dos proyectos, en torno a la narrativa de las representaciones sobre la Amazonía, que buscan abordar problemas socioculturales. Se incluye la presentación del director Matías Vega Norell sobre Etsa Nantu, Pasión en la Amazonía, primera radionovela bilingüe realizada con  pobladores Awajún y Wampis. Finalmente, la artista Fátima Rodrigo presentará UNAP (Universidad Nacional de la Amazonía Peruana), una pieza de video que recorre la estructura física de la Facultad de Agronomía de la Universidad Nacional de la Amazonía Peruana; una edificación brutalista construida a pocos kilómetros de la capital de Loreto, que reproduce una serie de contradicciones.

Alta Tecnología Andina – ATA and the Lima Art Museum – MALI present

Within the framework of the Ars Electronica Festival 2020, the Lima Art Museum – MALI and Alta Tecnología Andina – ATA are collaborating to produce Garden Lima. Configurations around the Amazon, an audiovisual program and an opportunity to give different approaches of the Peruvian Amazon.

The Peruvian Amazon is a vast geographical and social space yet it has been historically relegated. In the Amazon region crucial subjects for contemporary life are debated: from the fight for the rights of indigenous communities and the preservation of their ancestral knowledge to the conservation of a vital natural environment for global survival.

The program is structured around  three themes: Migratory movement and preservation of the Amazonian memory, Configurations around the environment, the Amazon and new media, and Representations about the indigenous Amazon. This presentation brings together the projects of six Peruvian artists and authors: Beno Juárez, Nancy La Rosa, Fátima Rodrigo, Olinda Silvano (Reshinjabe), Elena Valera (Bawan Jisbe) and Matías Vega.

Migratory movement and preservation of the Amazonian memory:

The artists Olinda Silvano (Reshinjabe) and Elena Valera (Bawan Jisbe),migrants and descendants of the original Shipibo-Conibo people, reflect on life in the urban settlement of Cantagallo, in the outskirts of Lima, the ways of preservation of collective memory and the traditions of their communities, as well as the problems they face due to the risk of contagion of COVID-19.

Nancy La Rosa is a visual artist whose projects approach the socio-environmental conflicts derived from the extraction of common goods in Peru, as well as to the power relations that exist in the traditional representations of the territory. In this section, the artist will present the works she has developed over the past eight years, including  El Obturador Emancipado video piece. On the other hand, the architect Beno Juárez will present the Floating Fab Lab Amazonas project, roaming digital manufacturing laboratories, which seeks to develop new technologies to solve the main challenges of the world: social inclusion and climate change, through the elaboration of essential and biodegradable objects.

Finally, the Representations about the indigenous Amazon section will present two projects around the narrative of Amazonian representations in order to address sociocultural problems. This includes the presentation of director Matías Vega Norell of the bilingual radio soap opera Etsa Nantu, passion in the Amazon; and artist Fatima Rodrigo will present UNAP (National University of the Peruvian Amazon), a video piece that dissects part of the physical makeup of the brutalist University built in the Peruvian Amazonian rainforest.
